VIVE Health & Fitness in Kingston, PA, steps from the Wyoming Valley Levee Trail
Run & Walk From VIVE

Your Front Door
Opens to the River.

VIVE sits steps from the Wyoming Valley Levee Trail, Kirby Park and miles of flat, car-free river path connecting Kingston and Wilkes-Barre. Warm up outside, log your miles, then recover in the saunas. Pick a route below and take it with you.

Why Run From Here

A Gym With a Trailhead

Most gyms put you on a treadmill. VIVE puts you on the river. Our location in Kingston is one of the best-kept secrets for runners and walkers in the Wyoming Valley: the levee trail system is right here, and from our door you are minutes from a flat, paved, car-free path that runs for miles along the Susquehanna and connects straight across to Wilkes-Barre.

Start your morning with an easy riverside loop right out the door. Build base miles down the levee to Kirby Park. Or take on the two-bridge river loop when you want distance and water views the whole way. Whatever you choose, you finish back at VIVE, where the saunas, towel service and shake bar turn a run into a full reset.

You're one step closer to a stronger, healthier you. The journey starts at the front door.

Getting on
the Levee

There are two easy ways to reach the river path from VIVE. Both keep you on sidewalks and marked crossings until you are safely on the trail.

Nesbitt Park & the Levee Trail

VIVE sits a short jog from Nesbitt Park and the Luzerne County Levee Trail, the flat, paved, car-free path that runs right along the Susquehanna. Head down to the river and you are on the trail. Perfect for a warm-up, a recovery walk, or the start of any route here.

South to Kirby Park, or Across the River

Once you are on the levee the trail runs both ways: south along the water to Kirby Park and its Olmsted Loop trails, or down to the Market Street and North Street bridges to cross into Wilkes-Barre and the River Common. No road running required.

Run It Safe and Legal

  • Cross only at marked crosswalks and obey all traffic signals between the club and the trail.
  • The levee is a shared-use path: keep right, pass on the left, and call out when passing walkers and cyclists.
  • On the bridges, stay on the pedestrian sidewalk, not the roadway.
  • Follow all posted Luzerne County Flood Protection Authority rules and any gate or signage on the levee.
  • After heavy rain or when the Susquehanna runs high, sections of the trail and its access gates can close. If a gate is shut, turn around and save the route for another day.
  • Be seen in low light: wear reflective gear early morning and at dusk, and tell someone your route.
  • Bring water and your phone. The Open in Google Maps buttons give you live turn-by-turn on the way.

The Routes,
In Detail

Three to start with, from a quick warm-up to a true distance loop. Distances are approximate and being finalized with GPS.

Levee Warm-Up
~0.9 miEasyLevee trail, out and back~20 min walk

Best for: a quick warm-up before a lift, an easy cool-down, or a short walk.

From the door, drop down to the Luzerne County Levee Trail and run the riverside path a few minutes before turning back. Flat, car-free, and short enough to repeat for intervals.

Two-Bridge River Loop
~2.4 miModerateLevee, bridges, river common~50 min walk

Best for: the signature run, with the best views in the valley.

Down the levee and across the Market Street Bridge into Wilkes-Barre, up the River Common along the water, then back over the North Street Bridge and home. Two river crossings with the Susquehanna beside you nearly the whole way. Use the bridge sidewalks and marked crossings.

Levee to Kirby Park
~3.6 miModerateLevee trail + park paths~75 min walk

Best for: a longer, steady run on a flat, car-free surface.

Follow the levee south along the river all the way to Kirby Park, wind through the Olmsted Loop trails, and return the way you came. Scenic the whole way and almost entirely separated from traffic once you are on the trail.
